Cupaloy

Work in progress

CUPALOY is a research-driven photobook and series of exhibitions that investigates perception, chance and archival logic through a collection of historical events that nearly happened—or moments that could have, or did, alter world history through fatal error, coincidences or irreversible human interference.

The work brings together 300 events, showing examples of failed experiments, human conflict, computer glitches, paperwork mistakes, forced control, nuclear threats, celestial events, technology of warfare and extinct animals. Assembled into a non-linear narrative, the fragments reveal a chain reaction of unexpected connections across time and geography, exposing how historical accounts is shaped not only by facts, but by exclusions, errors and speculative possibilities.

Working across imagery, cast objects and text, the work investigate the instability of historical documentation and the ways in which photography – here understood as a representational system rather than a medium – shapes cultural memory, trust and narrative authority. The work is presented as a terrain of photographic and symbolic traces and hybrid objects that seem both ancient and futuristic.
